it's been a while.... parent blues

It's been awhile.  This was a tough week, month even.  We became yaya less just this month. It was a tough month but we survived.  It can be done, but it was no walk in the park.  I am so grateful to our previous ate's for sticking around with us for years and we super appreciate what they have done for us.  But they need to live their dreams as well and we have no right to hold them back.

Aside from the yaya blues and dramas in finding new household help, there are the struggles of being a parent to 3 kids with individual personalities. Sometimes you second guess yourself if you are doing the right thing for your kids.  Are you being overly protective, are you being too lenient, am I setting a good example to them.  It is a constant struggle to balance everything.

The horror stories you hear from the news about young ladies getting abducted in broad daylight is enough to make you lose sleep if you should allow your college kid to commute to school or should you just shelter them and bring them to school  everyday even if it is not economical and practical.  But did we not do the same when we were younger?  There are also horror stories then of crimes all around and we managed, didn't we?  Maybe times have changed, criminals are more aggressive or is it really the same, it is just that information and news are so much available now that every crime, big or small are broadcast more often.  But shouldn't we let them experience life and teach them how to protect themselves?

I realized that I have to let them fend for themselves as that is the only way to learn. It is a scarier world out there but we can not stop that. We need to equip them to cope and to learn.

We can not always protect them, but we can always guide them to be cautious and be vigilant.

With constant prayer and reminder that is all we can always hope for.
